A nourishing ancestral spread you can make at home

Bone marrow has been cherished across cultures for centuries — rich in healthy fats, collagen, and fat-soluble nutrients. This simple marrow butter is a beautiful way to bring that traditional nourishment into your kitchen. It’s especially wonderful for kids, but your whole family will love it as a deeply satisfying, savory spread.

By gently roasting marrow bones and blending the warm marrow with real butter and a pinch of unrefined salt, you get a nutrient-dense butter you can use in so many ways — no whipping or fancy equipment needed.

✨ Ingredients:

• 4 to 5 split beef marrow bones (ask your butcher to cut them lengthwise or crosswise)

• 100–120 g (about 7–8 tbsp) of softened Grass-fed butter

Unrefined Celtic Sea salt, to taste — about ¼ to ½ tsp

→ I use this mineral-rich salt — clean, natural, and full of trace minerals

🔥 Instructions:

1. Preheat your oven to 200°C / 400°F.

2. Place the marrow bones on a baking sheet and roast for about 20 minutes, or until the marrow softens and begins to pull away from the bone. (You can collect any rendered fat for cooking if you’d like.)

3. While still warm, scoop the marrow out of the bones and place into a bowl.

4. Add the softened butter and salt. Mix everything well with a fork until fully combined.

5. Spoon into a clean jar and store in the fridge.

🧊 Storage:

Keeps in the refrigerator for about 1 week. For longer storage, freeze in small portions and thaw as needed.

🥄 How to Use It:

• Spread on warm sourdough or rye bread

• Melt over roasted veggies or steamed potatoes

• Stir into soups or broths for a rich flavor boost

• Use as a nutrient-dense fat for sautéing
